At the beginning of my first year at college, I met two girls whose behaviour struck me as peculiar and conceited. Priyadharshini and Rakshitha were vibrant and confident, but their assertiveness and aloofness left me uncertain about their qualities.
They moved around with their gangs and it often seemed like they spoke in hushed tones and it set them apart from the rest of us. Their presence was hard to ignore, and it was easy to label them as “Attitude Girls”—a term often unfairly used to describe clear-headed and determined young women. Many found their behaviour strange, even off-putting. I also succumbed to the habit of making hasty judgments about them based on superficial observations. However, as days rolled on, my interactions with Priya and Rakshu began to paint a very beautiful picture. Underneath their initial facade of aloofness, I discovered two young women who were not only incredibly talented but also remarkably humble and kind-hearted.
Priyadharshini, with her sharp intellect, was always one step ahead, her curiosity drove her to delve deeper into things. Her boldness is a breadth of fresh air, turning every word she speaks into a powerful statement. She effortlessly commanded attention. Her fearless articulation always left
everyone in awe, proving that true confidence lies in the courage to speak one’s mind. Similarly, Rakshitha’s every action inspired awe, showcasing her boldness and straightforwardness in everything she does. Her clear future goals and unique approach to life set her apart, making her truly stunning. With a fearless spirit, she captivates and inspires me.
As I got to know Priya and Rakshu better, I realized how wrong my initial judgments had been. Their confidence, which had initially seemed like arrogance, was in truth a reflection of their inner strength and self-assurance. Their seemingly strange behaviour was simply a manifestation of their unique perspectives and the deep bond they shared as friends.
This experience taught me a valuable lesson about the risks of making quick judgments based on first impressions. People are often much more complex and multi-faceted. In a world where quick judgments and superficial assessments are all too common, Priya and Rakshu’s story serves as a kind reminder to look beyond the surface and to give people the opportunity to reveal their true selves. They taught me that genuine beauty lies in humility, kindness, and the strength to be oneself.
To Rakshu and Priya, thank you for the lesson. Your journey from being misunderstood to being admired is a testament to the power of seeing people for who they truly are. You have inspired one, and many others, to approach life with an open heart and an open mind, and for that, I will forever remain grateful.
