Akkshitha S, an 18-year-old Computer Science Engineering student at VEC, is awaiting to create a significant impact in the field of data science. She is currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science Engineering while also simultaneously doing an online degree offered by IIT. Her ability to balance these commitments alongside her ambitious nature makes her story truly inspiring.
After completing her CBSE board exams, Akkshitha planned to take a break year to prepare for the JEE exam. However, personal reasons prevented her from doing so. During this time, she discovered a dual degree program in Data Science and Applications offered by IIT Madras. Intrigued, she enrolled in May 2023, beginning a five-year course that complements her engineering studies. She got direct admission using her JEE Mains score.
The program is flexible, allowing Akkshitha to learn at her own pace while providing the structure of a traditional college experience. She quickly adapted, diving into both the online and offline components of the course. Over the past year, Akkshitha has gained significant exposure through her studies and involvement in various activities.
Akkshitha is an active member of Veritas, a club at IIT managed by BS students under the guidance of professors. She also played a key role in organizing the Kampus Run during the Paradox 24 festival, an event that spans a week and includes a mix of technical and non-technical activities.
Her commitment to data science led her to secure an internship at Wayspire in her first year, adding practical experience to her academic achievements.
Akkshitha’s decision to join this program stemmed from a personal setback. After her JEE results didn’t go as planned, she sought a new direction. The dual degree program not only aligned with her interest in data science but also helped her move forward positively.
