In this huge planet, people often value themselves less by seeking external validation. They sometimes believe that they are fulfilled only if they seek love outside. Some even believe that the act of loving themselves is a crime and they term it ‘selfishness’. I think there is a serious need to distinguish between selfishness and self love.
Self-love starts from within and it heals all your flaws. This kind of love starts when you forgive, accept, and most importantly when you try to convert your flaws into your biggest strengths. Loving yourself is essential before sharing love and positivity with the world.
One could even go a step further and say that if everyone in this world practices self-love the crime rates around the world would definitely decrease. Because, when we love ourselves we do not merely accept our flaws, we embrace them, we learn from them and we grow. Self-love is all about treating oneself with compassion and kindness.
The importance of self love cannot be overstated. It is the foundation upon which we build a fulfilling life. When we love ourselves, we are more resilient in the face of adversity. It enables us to set healthy boundaries in our relationships and we refuse to settle for the least. That’s when you discover your true potential.
We all must have felt really low when we are hit by the storm, whether it might be a competitive exam or when your colleagues and friends don’t value your talent, or be it something worse like body shaming. Forgive them all and start loving yourself. I know that forgiving is the hardest part and it can be challenging. It is essential to forgive others to love ourselves. When you forgive them you will start paying less attention to the negativity around you and your focus will turn inward.
Remember that the journey towards self love is not a destination. It is rather a process where you accept your imperfections and will start embracing yourself. In this world nothing is perfect. We are really very lucky to have many pop artists, songwriters, and influencers who shed light on this topic. In this valentine’s day let your inner self be your valentine. Because we all deserve to be treated with kindness and compassion.
“I have come to love myself for who I am, who I was, and for who I hope to become”
– BTS.
Let’s love ourselves and celebrate self-love this valentine’s day.
