However, many people have tremendous anxiety while communicating in English, whether spoken or written. This anxiety can be caused by a multitude of reasons, including fear of making errors, anxieties about how one will be regarded, and trepidation about not being understood. Such fears can have a significant influence on one’s capacity to communicate successfully in both personal and professional settings.
Communication anxiety in English has a wide range of effects. Professionally, individuals may be hesitant to attend meetings, propose ideas, or engage in networking opportunities, thereby impeding professional advancement. In academic environments, students may fail to participate in conversations or finish tasks efficiently, impacting their performance and confidence. On a personal level, communication anxiety can lead to isolation because people avoid social situations in which English is the dominant means of communication, limiting their capacity to develop meaningful relationships.
