Leading with Grace and Purpose: An Interview with Our ECE HoD

In an inspiring conversation, our beloved Head of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering shared her valuable experiences, insights, and life lessons that shaped her journey as a leader and mentor. She reflected on the challenges she faced, the milestones she achieved, and the importance of fostering innovation and collaboration in both teaching and research. Her words not only illuminate the path of leadership but also serve as a reminder of the power of perseverance, adaptability, and a deep commitment to nurturing the next generation of engineers.

1. What are some key moments or achievements in your career that you are most proud of?

“Hoisting the national flag on Independence Day in 2018 stands out as one of the most cherished moments of my career. It was a proud recognition of my department’s consistent academic excellence, reflected in achieving the highest pass percentage. Being granted this honour by our then Principal and Vice Principal remains a moment I hold close to my heart.”

2. How do you balance your professional and personal life and what advice would you give to aspiring women leaders?

“Balancing both spheres is a challenge every working woman faces. For me, open communication with my family is the key. We sit together during dinner and share our day’s challenges. This mutual understanding creates harmony at home and allows me to handle my professional responsibilities better. My advice to aspiring women leaders is to create a supportive environment both at home and work.”

3. How do you think women’s participation in leadership roles has evolved over the years?

“It is indeed evolving beautifully. We have inspiring examples like the President of India herself being a woman. However, I often notice young women compromising their career after marriage. They should not lose sight of their potential and must continue to explore their skills and talents in all walks of life.”

4. How do you support and mentor female students who aspire to excel in their fields?

“I always make an effort to provide opportunities for students from underprivileged backgrounds and for those who are shy or hesitant. I guide them patiently and offer the confidence they need to step forward and succeed.”

5. What motivates you to keep going on tough days?

“A simple cup of coffee refreshes my mind during tough times. And when life gets overwhelming, I believe in taking a break, getting sound sleep, giving some rest to my mind, and then bouncing back with renewed energy.”

6. Can you share a moment when you felt you truly made a difference in a student’s life?

“One of the most memorable experiences in my career has been mentoring students like Mr. Sai Sharan, one of the title winners from Super Singer and Mr. Muthuswamy. I fondly recall how, with continuous guidance and encouragement, Mr. Muthuswamy was able to reshape his journey and achieve remarkable success. Now settled in Ireland, he never misses an opportunity to send his warm wishes on Teacher’s Day and during festivals. These sincere expressions of gratitude from my students are deeply meaningful and reaffirm my passion for teaching.”

Conclusion

Her journey stands as a testimony to dedication, compassion, and perseverance. As a teacher, mentor, and leader, she continues to inspire not only her students but also her colleagues. Her ability to lead with kindness, nurture young talents, and balance personal and professional life makes her a role model for every aspiring woman leader. She proves that true leadership is not just about success but about making a difference in the lives of others.
