Be it the refreshing scent of a new book or the antique fragrance of an old one that has been passed down through generations, that feeling of holding a book in your hand is something otherworldly. Books and the habit of reading have almost disappeared all thanks to the technological development. The advent of Artificial intelligence I think has worsened the situation. In today’s world, where AI dominates numerous different domains, the habit of reading has had a severe impact. While it blends the traditional joy of literature with evolving technology, it also raises questions about the human calibre of imagination and the nature of storytelling.
Today, we are just an application away from having proficiency in grammar. It is definitely beneficial in many fields, however the ability to produce original narratives, and artistic expression are highly challenged by AI. People, particularly youngsters are a bit too dependent on AI resources for things as small as homework to something as big as a project.
AI, with its ability to create human-like plots and creating pictures using text has definitely revolutionised the art of writing. Overall AI offers a wide range of tasks. For example, by analysing the genre it provides suggestions of more such novels, but through this, one would definitely miss out on the joy of exploring and discovering something you never expected. Discovering new authors and being surprised by a variety of works cannot be achieved through AI.
AI has for sure made reading a lot easier with features like read aloud, and audiobooks. It is a powerful technique to enrich our minds with knowledge while multitasking, one could just hop on a bus and finish a newspaper just with a read-aloud or application where one can just scroll through the headlines. However, the traditional method of incorporating the discipline to sit still and focus on texts and truly understand what’s written cannot be completely achieved by AI audiobooks.
To conclude with a personal point of view, as a person who finds reading novels, delightful, it is only right to say that the traditional reading of books made of paper is a pure joy. AI is a massively potent tool that comes in handy in various scenarios and it should be agreed that reading habits inculcating AI are profitable. Yet, it is as important to turn the pages manually and appreciate the traditional way of reading.
