Shaping a Karate Leagacy: A Path to Excellence and Beyond

Rishikumar’s journey into the world of karate began at the age of nine, sparked by the influence of his uncle, Mohan, who saw the potential in him from an early age. What started as a simple introduction to martial arts quickly grew into a lifelong passion, shaping Rishikumar’s character and instilling in him a deep sense of discipline and perseverance.

As Rishikumar delved deeper into karate, his commitment began to yield remarkable results. He quickly distinguished himself in the competitive arena, amassing over 20 medals and certificates that reflected his growing prowess. His standout performances, such as earning 2nd place in Kumite (fighting technique) at the Chengalpattu district level and claiming 1st place in Kata (self-defense technique), underscored his natural talent and relentless drive. These early victories not only bolstered his confidence but also solidified his position as a formidable contender in the karate world.

However, as with many young athletes, the demands of education required Rishikumar to take a step back from his karate training. For three years, he focused on his academic pursuits, which temporarily put his karate journey on hold. Despite this break, the flame of his passion for karate never dimmed. After completing his educational obligations, Rishikumar returned to karate with renewed vigor, determined to continue where he had left off.

In April 2023, Rishikumar reached a significant milestone by earning his master’s degree in karate, a testament to his skill, discipline, and perseverance. Following this achievement, he spent a year working alongside his senior master, gaining invaluable experience and further honing his craft. During this time, he also participated in numerous karate camps across Tamil Nadu, broadening his knowledge and refining his techniques.

On August 15, 2024, Rishikumar traveled to Bangalore to pursue his second degree in karate, master title in his chosen style, Kenbunkai Shito Ryu, a style known for its rigorous training and emphasis on discipline. Now, he is preparing to move to Kerala to work towards earning his third degree, bringing him closer to his ultimate goal: representing his country in the Japan tournament, scheduled for February 2025.

For Rishikumar, the journey is as important as the destination. While he is undoubtedly ambitious, his primary focus remains on the process of self-improvement rather than the outcome of competitions. Whether he wins or loses in Japan, his goal is to give his best effort and continue growing as a martial artist.

Throughout his journey, Rishikumar has remained deeply grateful to those who have supported him. His master, Rensai E. Sivadasan, has been a constant source of guidance and wisdom, while his friends have provided unwavering encouragement. As he continues to push the boundaries of his abilities, one thing is certain: Rishikumar will always give his best because, for him, the process is what truly matters.
