In the dazzling constellation of Kollywood’s brightest talents, there emerges a luminary whose brilliance promises to reshape the cinematic scene. Meet Nithish Kumar S (18) a 1st year student from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Born in Pondicherry in a family of five Nithish has no background or influence in the Film industry. His early interest was to join the Indian Military but eventually, his interest changed. Nithish’s best companion was Television with which he spent most of his time. This was when Nithish’s Directorial interests kicked in, as he gained massive interest in the film Industry.
His life took a turn when he was invited to play a role in a short film by his friends during his 9th grade. This was Nithish’s first exposure to the real world of Films and he was inspired by the various devices used in the film industry such as the famous clapperboard, cameras, lighting, etc. Nithish and his friends who shared similar ambitions and goals started pushing their limits in order to mark their first contribution to the Kollywood industry. Nithish also took inspiration from director Mr. Vetrimaaran’s way of story narration.
Jai Bhim, an inspiring film that focuses on the hardships and oppressions faced by the Irula tribe and other marginalised men opened a door for Nithish’s first venture NERKANAL, a short film where Nithish becomes the voice of the marginalised people thus representing the tribes and their issues. This short film has received tremendous success by winning 8 National awards: awards for BEST ACTOR, BEST EXPERIMENTAL FILM, BEST DIALOGUE, and BEST SCREENPLAY in the Indian Film House (IFH) National level short film awards 2022 and various State and district level appreciations. NERKANAL paved the way for the beginning of NAJALAS Entertainments, The name NAJALAS was coined by merging the initial letter of each of the seven friends’ names, with the first letter, N, representing Nithish’s name. Nithish’s success has been accredited by many notable organisations.
Nithish further expanded his expertise in Editing, Dubbing, and Designing fields which landed him a spot at LYCA Productions as an illustrator and designer who gives ideas and frameworks for multiple events organised by them, especially Audio launches. Nithish doesn’t seem to be worrying about money too much as he focuses mainly on creating his own space in the film industry. Nithish also strives to join RED GAINT MOVIES which is his ultimate goal.
Apart from Professional Life, Nithish has also faced many personal problems. He was mocked by his fellow mates for his congenital defects. But his Cleft Palate stands as a testament to his resilience and inner strength.
Nithish Kumar, An underrated maestro also talks about balancing his college life with directorial work and hold and about playing the crucial role of the elder son in the family. He is anticipating his directional debut following the completion of his Bachelor’s degree, a goal to which he has dedicated his entire life. We are pleased to have identified such a hidden gem in our institute and we wish him great success in the future.
