Professor Sam Hsu’s team at City University of Hong Kong earned the Best International Invention Award at AEII 2025 for their Bio-Photoelectrochemical Tandem Reactor (BPTR)

The BPTR pairs a microbial bioelectrode to degrade wastewater pollutants with a solar-powered photoelectrode for hydrogen production in neutral conditions, tackling water purification and green fuel needs simultaneously.
