Deshma Prabhakaran is currently pursuing her third year in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at SRM Valliammai Engineering College. She completed her schooling at NSN Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chitlapakkam, Chennai.
From her school days, Deshma has always been passionate about public speaking, leadership, and hosting events. This confidence only grew stronger in college. At SRM VEC, she actively participated in cultural events, hosted multiple programmes, and enthusiastically took up leadership roles. She served as an Executive Committee Member in the SRM VEC CSI Club, and this year, she proudly holds the position of Joint Secretary. She also contributed as a Core Committee Member in SRM VEC MUN. Balancing academics, responsibilities, and self-growth has profoundly shaped her into the person she is today.
Alongside her academic journey, Deshma has always dreamed of becoming an entrepreneur. She noted that all the men in her family run their own businesses, while the women work in private sectors. Deshma wanted to break that pattern and become the first businesswoman in her entire bloodline. With that aspiration, she launched her own food truck startup in January 2025, called “Bites and Drizzles.”
After the launch, she began setting up stalls across different colleges—her first at Crescent College, followed by SDNB Vaishnav College, and then AM Jain. Each of these experiences helped her understand customers, build brand identity, and explore the potential of the food business. Since then, she has successfully launched several more setups, and the venture is running strong.
By 2026, Deshma is planning to open her first physical shop under the brand Bites and Drizzles, and her long-term goal is to establish multiple franchises across Chennai. This is a dream she is working towards with full dedication.
Even though she is passionate about entrepreneurship, Deshma also believes in strengthening her knowledge. After completing her B.E., she plans to pursue her Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) at the London Business School, United Kingdom. She believes studying MBA will give her deeper insights into business strategy and management. By 2027, she hopes to begin her master’s journey, and later, aims to start a business in London, marking one of the biggest milestones of her life.
Throughout her college years, Deshma has been part of multiple clubs, taken leadership roles, managed academics, and run her business—all at the same time. Her message to today’s young generation is simple:
“You can do anything you dream of, if you are willing to stay consistent, curious, and courageous.”
Books played a huge role in shaping her mindset. She would love to recommend:
- The Psychology of Money
- The Diary of a CEO
- Atomic Habits
- Zero to One
- Rebuild
- The Lean Startup
- The Power of Your Subconscious Mind
These books helped her understand discipline, finance, mindset, creativity, and innovation—everything an aspiring entrepreneur needs.
This marks Deshma’s first time being featured in the college magazine, and when she returns someday as an alumna, she hopes to do so as a successful entrepreneur making an impact in the world. Her journey stands as a powerful motivation for any student aiming to start their own path.
